Paloma Santos: the Surfer Behind the Crown in Santa Catalina
The Chilean representative claimed victory at the ALAS Global Tour in Santa Catalina, adding another international title to her career.
Santos once again placed the Chilean flag at the top of the surfing world after being crowned Women’s Shortboard champion at the ALAS Global Tour in Santa Catalina, Panama, winning the final with a total score of 10.47.
The Chilean started the final strongly, putting pressure on her opponents from her opening waves. Her best wave scored 6.17 points, earned through a performance that included four well-executed maneuvers.
She later added a 4.30, which became her second-best score and allowed her to secure first place, finishing ahead of American Rubiana Brownell, who scored 9.27. Ecuadorian Dominic Barona completed the podium in third place with 7.53, while Argentine Lucía Indurain finished fourth with 4.63.
Behind this new victory is a career that has been closely linked to surfing for years. Paloma is a professional surfer, a three-time national champion and a Latin American runner-up in 2019, achievements that have established her as one of Chile’s most experienced representatives on the international stage.
Her victory at the ALAS Global Tour in Santa Catalina adds a new chapter to her career and to a story that continues to make its mark beyond Chile on the waves. But her path in the sport is not limited to competition. Santos has also developed projects focused on the training and growth of new surfers, such as Paloma Surf Camp, an initiative through which she shares her experience and knowledge of the sport.
