This event will take place in Chile for the first time under the concept “From the Wave to the Legacy,” aiming to reflect on the relationship between surfing and coastal territories, placing the connection between waves, well-being, communities and ocean protection at the center.

Over five days, Rompientes Vivas 2026 will bring together representatives from different countries and organizations connected to surfing, health, inclusion, conservation, ocean education and community development, creating a space for dialogue around the different uses and benefits the ocean can provide.

The initiative will include conferences, workshops, hands-on experiences and open activities, with the goal of turning the knowledge and experiences shared during the event into concrete actions for coastal territories.

The program is structured around four key areas: surf break protection, health and well-being through the ocean, and inclusion and community action, addressing surfing as a tool that can contribute both to the conservation of territories and to people’s well-being.

In this context, one of the highlights will be an inclusive surfing day on Saturday, November 7, where facilitators and national and international organizations will work alongside local stakeholders to bring the ocean closer to different groups within the community.

Among the invited organizations is Waves for Change, a South African organization specializing in Surf Therapy, which will bring its Take 5 methodology to Coquimbo and participate in a training session for facilitators and organizations. Specialists working with concepts such as Surf Health, Blue Health and Blue Prescribing will also be present, connecting science, health and experiences developed through the ocean.

The host organization will be Surf Therapy Coquimbo, while the choice of Totoralillo aims to highlight the importance of surf breaks as living ecosystems, understanding waves not only as places to surf, but also as part of territories where biodiversity, culture, tourism, the local economy and communities converge.

With free activities and delegations from more than 15 countries, Rompientes Vivas 2026 seeks to ensure that the event goes beyond the Congress itself and helps promote new conservation, inclusion and well-being initiatives in other coastal territories.
